Learning to model with Blender

Learning to model with Blender

This course has been designed with the intention of introducing those interested in 3D design with Blender for model printing.

By the time you complete all the proposed content, you should have a general understanding of the basic steps required to print a 3D piece, adapting to any slicer available on the market. You should also have a basic idea of how to produce 3D models with Blender. However, 3D design is an art that requires dedication and patience. More complex designs will require patience and, in some cases, more advanced Blender tools that are not covered in this course.

This course does not aim to be an exhaustive guide to Blender nor does it intend to replace the official manual1.

Some of the decisions presented in this course have been made with the specific context of 3D printing production in mind. Applying these same decisions to fields like film production or video games could lead to suboptimal workflows or results.

The structure of this manual does not follow the natural order of the production pipeline. Typically, the process would begin with concept development, followed by 3D modeling, exporting, slicing, printing, and finally post-processing. However, for educational purposes, we believe it’s important to first present the end goal (printing), highlight the key considerations for a successful print, and only then focus on producing models that meet those requirements. If readers are not aware from the start of what’s essential in 3D printing, they won’t understand why models need to be designed with certain characteristics.

This course is non-commercial. Its purpose is purely educational and informative.
